Acts seems to present the idea that the signs/wonders were for the close associates - Acts 2:43 ; Acts 14:3 ; Acts 15:12 2. 2 Corinthians 12:12 - the signs of an apostle - signs and wonders 3. Hebrews 2:3-4 4. Matthew 10:1-8 5. 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 that which is perfect refers to the canon of scripture - Ceasing starts when the perfect or complete has come - that which is perfect is the Holy Bible 6. Church History - they claim that these kinds of sign gifts have appeared in no one particular group and continued to heal like Jesus and the disciples. Ultimately, with the death of the apostles and the establishment of the Bible as the inherent Word of God the sign gifts ceased and are no longer active for the church today. The Biblical defense for the Continuationalist 1. 1 Corinthians 12-14 - Luke 9:1-2; 10:1-9, 17; Matthew 24:14; Mark 16:15-18; John 14:2 - Historically there are many stories of miraculous works being done among unreached people groups 2. It was the apostles plus deacons that performed miracles - Stephen in Acts 6:8; Phillip the evangelist Acts 8:4-8; Barnabas 3. Galatians 3:5 4. 1 Corinthians 12:28 5. 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 - We know in part - prophesy in part - FACE TO FACE - eternal state - Rapture; Second coming of Christ (millennium); New heaven and new earth - eternal state - 1 Cor 1:7 - Christ revealed Conclusion the apostles were unique and God used these foundation builders in a unique way and we must honour that Ephesians 2:20; Matt 16:18; 1 Cor 3:10-11 There is enough evidence that says that we need to be open to the idea that this day in which we live may be a time where God desires to work in the church, in the establishment of your faith, and to move among the lost in a similar way, utilizing all the gifts of the Spirit at His will and disposal.
