Union- on spirit one flesh union 2. Covenant commitment- never leave you 3. Dying- dying is the only way to fulfillthe commitment All three are inseparably connected! I Corinthians 6:9-20 1. Union-one spirit one flesh union Leaving our parents and joining the new one flesh union with our spouse is meant to show the one spirit union of the Christ and the church One Spirit with Him Our body is the Lord's I Cor 6:17 Your marriage is a display of the union It is until death do us part It is put and held together by God but only as far as you are committed! 2. Covenant Malachai 2:13-17 Malachi's writing, the words he uses and the questions he ask, elevates marriage above social convention to divine ordinance. Problem #1 Profaned (polluted) the Holy institution (marriage) which He loves Holy (set apart) marriage He loves it Problem #2 Dealing treacherously (unfaithful-faithlessly) with the wife of your youth Companion- union (goal)-relational Covenant-bond Difference between Contractual marriage (cultural) and COVENANT marriage (biblical) Contract Promises Part of Life Expiration date Written in ink Enforced by courts Sign my name Covenant Oath All of Life Until death do us part Written in blood Reinforced by character Bind my heart  Contract marriage says 1. protect my rights 2. limits my responsibility 3.Safeguards my interest 4. I love you because you love me 5. lam committed to you as long as.... Covenant Marriage Lays down my Rights Increases my responsibility Safeguards the interests of companion I love you because we are committed and one I am committed to you PERIOD!  In a covenant marriage you also make a covenant to God and it is sealed by God - Eccl 4:12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. - But if you do break it you also break it with God!  Israel repeatedly hears, "| will be with you" (lsaiah_41:10). Human marriage reflects this divine presence; to betray one's spouse is to distort a living parable of God's fidelity.  3. Pastor Donny Coulter speaking Dana, Sophie on music Marriage God’s Way : The Theology of Marriage Pt 3 Feb 15, 2026 2026 REVIEW: Low view vs High View of God and Marriage - Low view of God = powerless God - Low view of marriage = powerless and fragile marriage The glory, the magnificence, the wonder of marriage as God intended is unconceivable to us because of: - Selfishness; Outside influence; Trauma, negative experience We must be able and ready to receive God’s version of marriage as Jesus refers his disciples to in Matt 19. - We must find it in the Word - We must depend on the Holy Spirit to reveal and empower Now we found out in building the theology of marriage that this wonderful institution, the glorious covenant comes from God - It comes from Him by the very design of creation - It comes from Him as He presented the first bride and the first union - It comes from Him because He spoke the design – leave and cleave - It comes from Him by His supernatural joining work The covenant relationship of Spiritual joining and one flesh is put together by God: - Not from romance or sexual relationships - Joined by God Himself Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24,25 and Ephesians 5:31, 32 1. Marriage comes form God 2. Pastor Donny Coulter speaking Cliff Coverdale Welcome and Announcements Dana, Ave, Danielle on music Marriage God's Way: The Theology of Marriage Pt 2  Feb 8,2026  Low view versus High view of the covenant of Marriage Low view/High View of marriage 2 ○ we have a low view of the sanctity and the beauty of marriage " We have allowed our view to be shaped by something OUTSIDE of God's Word and His heart This low view effects how we process -Conflict, Loss of feelings, Finances We are building a theology of marriage-God's design, God's way as described in the Word of God  Genesis 1:27, 28; 2:18-25  Marriage Comes From God  1-Comes from God by design in creation - Gen 1:27,28- He made male and female just for marriage ○ He made a man and a woman to be together in most cases to procreate ◦ He BLESSED them- blessed union and Identity- male/female  - The process of creation Gen 2:18-22 ◦ God himself made the pronouncement "It is not good to be alone" and "l will make" - A partner PERFECTLY FITTED- suitable to him - Only what God made for him would do, - God in his design made us compliment one another  2-By Bringing her to Him Gen 2:22 - He brought the bride ○ By doing this God is saying "This union meets my approval- this is how I desire it to be done  3- Comes from God By the Word of His own mouth Gen 2:24 - Moses is writing this but look at Jesus words in Matthew 19:1-6 - God made them (designed to be together- helper suitable) and then He spoke it!  - God by His word spoke the design and the union into existence ○ Man and Woman - God made binary design and blessed and called it good ◦ Question is who is Lord? My feelings or Jesus - We are for those who struggle and not against them- we are against lies over truth - They need Love and the truth of the gospel and the community of people who love and point to the right place - No other options in God's plan- male and female  . - What we believe about something as amazing as marriage must be based on what God has said - Leave and cleave ⁃ Not joining another family- you making (have made) your own! - If you haven't left your mother and father yet then you are most likely struggling in your marriage! . - They are not your priority  - You have removed yourself from their authority and now live under a new authority of YOUR family  - If your mother or father are saying ill things about your husband or wife - silence is not golden ◦ This diminishes the value of you mate - they are not the priority  - Speak up! Its not about war (though it may go there) GRACE and TRUTH  - If separation comes then your priority is YOUR FAMILY -husband or wife- not mother or daddy
