Pastor Donny Coulter Speaking Jeff and Dana Practice Principle of Marriage 7-12-2026 I Peter 3:1-7 The Practice Principle of the Wife Submission to the husband If we are to reflect Jesus in all things then be submissive people This kind of HEART will speak volumes to the unbelieving or disobedient husband Your conduct – how you carry this out – may be the only convicting and convincing thing in his life Dressed to Impress Adornment – that which is seen attracts the attention Do not let it only be the outward stuff that wins the disobedient husband Outward – hair, gold, clothes But let your real adorning be the inward person of the heart Hidden person - We are talking now of the person inside that is under the influence of the Holy Spirit Gentle and quiet Gentle – Meek, not impressed with your own self importance Quiet - without turmoil, well ordered or undisturbed from without and exhibiting a peaceful attitude Does not mean silent – there are times to speak up Precious to God God places a high value on this (costly, expensive) Your quiet and gentle spirit is an act of WORSHIP to God PRACTICAL 1. Your service here to your husband is secondary to your service to God 2. This does not imply inferiority or unequalness 3. If your husband is not living up to his part in this you are called to this heart and practice ANYWAY 4. Quiet is not silent but it is quiet When it is time to speak up temper the speaking with gentleness and wisdom The Practice Principle – the Husband Dwell with them Doing life together with - Make this a LIFESTYLE Understanding Way - According to knowledge Knowledge, understanding - intimate knowledge, to know or learn by experience A knowledge that goes beyond FACTS Understand the WHY? What? Moods, Feelings, Needs, Fears, Hopes The opposite of understanding – ignorance Contempt, Despise, Disdain, Scorn, Disregard, Neglect, Ignore, Put down, devalue Honor your wife Honor means to hold in high esteem – to priceless value on You cannot honor what you do not perceive as honorable Eyes like that must dwell in the secret place of God – generation of husbands As to the weaker vessel Refers only to the physical sense - Not a directive of lesser Unconditional requirements This is not predicated on whether you think your wife “deserves it” It is built on obedience to God The consequence of not practicing understanding and honor When we are disobedient in the arena of the wife we will be disobedient in the arena of God PRACTICAL 1. Do this no matter what – obedience to God 2. Live with your wife Do life together! 3. Don’t be afraid to talk to her and ask questions so you can learn This is one of the important ways to learn 4. Submission – A heart of humility to support/affirm/reverence her husbands role as the leader and then by using her gifts to help (helper) him carry out his calling The Loving Leader 1. Love her to Death Eph 5:25-27 Love your wife with the same love Christ showed the church This is a command – no option here - It is a lifestyle You must do this on your own It is a voluntary choice by your own free will A Love from somewhere else Agapao – supernatural love – John 3:16 Impossible unless you are living out being filled with the Spirit Jesus is the standard of this love - Gal 5:22 Fruit of the spirit is LOVE – agape! A Protecting Love Gave himself for her Jesus is the model – no greater love than to lay down you life You are called to love sacrificially to love your wife Spiritual and Physical aspects Protect your wife with your life Protect her from the spiritual enemy and assault of the world You will never do this whole heartedly unless you filled with the Spirit 2. Love her like yourself Eph 5:28-30 This is a providing love The one flesh union of the man and woman What you do to her you so to yourself What Christ does to the Body He does to Himself 5:29,30 Love them as there own bodies Nourish and cherish her like yourself Nourish – means to provide A caring provider – when you lead like Christ then you will make sure the needs of your wife and children Cherish – to heat or soften by heat Tender care or tender love - I Thess 2:7 The physical and Spiritual aspect Physical provision of food and shelter Spiritual provision If I don’t have a spiritual life I cannot impart one MEN – If God has called you to this then He will always provide the power and strength to do it!
