Pastor Donny Coulter SpeakingThe Heart Principle of Marriage – The Husband 7/05/2026 Ephesians 5:18-33 Distinction of Roles If there is no distinction between my role and hers then we are left WONDERING and WANDERING The roles we have been given are not randomly assigned and they are not reversible Husbands are compared to Christ and the wife is compared to the Church HUSBANDS – model your role after Christ WIVES – model your role after the response of the church to Jesus The Heart of the Leader To lead properly we must lead as a servant - Luke 22:26 John 13 – Foot washing servant leadership Definitions Headship – A heart of humility to honor (priceless value) his wife and Christ with a Christ-like servant leadership, protection, provision and spiritual guidance in the home. Submission – A heart of humility to support/affirm/reverence her husbands role as the leader and then by using her gifts to help (helper) him carry out his calling The Loving Leader 1. Love her to Death Eph 5:25-27 Love your wife with the same love Christ showed the church This is a command – no option here - It is a lifestyle You must do this on your own It is a voluntary choice by your own free will A Love from somewhere else Agapao – supernatural love – John 3:16 Impossible unless you are living out being filled with the Spirit Jesus is the standard of this love - Gal 5:22 Fruit of the spirit is LOVE – agape! A Protecting Love Gave himself for her Jesus is the model – no greater love than to lay down you life You are called to love sacrificially to love your wife Spiritual and Physical aspects Protect your wife with your life Protect her from the spiritual enemy and assault of the world You will never do this whole heartedly unless you filled with the Spirit 2. Love her like yourself Eph 5:28-30 This is a providing love The one flesh union of the man and woman What you do to her you so to yourself What Christ does to the Body He does to Himself 5:29,30 Love them as there own bodies Nourish and cherish her like yourself Nourish – means to provide A caring provider – when you lead like Christ then you will make sure the needs of your wife and children Cherish – to heat or soften by heat Tender care or tender love - I Thess 2:7 The physical and Spiritual aspect Physical provision of food and shelter Spiritual provision If I don’t have a spiritual life I cannot impart one MEN – If God has called you to this then He will always provide the power and strength to do it!

Pastor Donny Coulter Speaking Marriage Series Pt 22 - The Heart Principle of Marriage - The Woman Dana and Thane on worship The Heart Principle of Marriage – First Steps Ephesians 5:18-33 6-27-2026 MUTUAL SUBMISSION - Submit to one another – Mutual submission is based upon a shared reverence of Jesus as Lord ALL SUBMISSION or SUBJECTION to others is based on this truth The following commands for the husband and the wife are UNCONDITIONAL Neither is dependent on the actions of the other We do it as a matter of obedience to Christ – humility and submission of HIM OBJECTION #1 Mutual submission removes any hierarchy of leadership Mutual submission does not PRECLUDE – do away with – submission of wives to husbands OBJECTION #2 we must redefine words to fall better on modern ears Once we go down this road of redefining terms there is no coming back – we open the floodgate of error and attack on absolute truth OBJECTION #3 Head does not mean leadership but SOURCE There is much debate around how the word was used in classical Greek (Thousands of articles, and papers) It boils down to where you come down on husband/wife relations Remember the picture – the analogy – the parable – the reflection of the marriage of Christ and the Bride and our marriage Eph 5:32 – the great mystery - Our marriage is to be a reflection of the marriage of Jesus and the church – bride ** The way Jesus treats the church and how the church responds to Jesus is the REDEEMED example of how our marriage is supposed to work ** The connector word is AS in Eph 5:24 – WIFE - submit to the husband AS the church does to Christ HEADSHIP (Leadership) and SUBMISSION Headship and Submission defined Headship – A heart of humility to honor (priceless value) his wife and Christ with a Christ-like servant leadership, protection, provision and spiritual guidance in the home. Submission – A heart of humility to support/affirm/reverence her husbands role as the leader and then by using her gifts to help (helper) him carry out his calling Wives submit to your husbands What submission IS NOT: 1. Obeying your husband like a child does a parent or a slave a master 2. It does not mean being a doormat – 3. It does not mean inferior 4. It does not mean NO VOICE/NO CHIOICE/ Women have brains (thoughts worth listening to leadership does not mean don’t listen!) Women have gifts, discernment, logic, wisdom – listen to them! What submission is As an equal voluntarily submitting – supporting – affirming another equal so that there can be God given order and function in the home Submission – A heart of humility to support/affirm/reverence her husbands role as the leader and then by using her gifts to help (helper) him carry out his calling She recognizes his calling and design of God She recognizes her calling and design of God Recognizes her gifting to see it through The Challenge 1. Say yes to the gospel 2. Being filled with the Spirit 3. Submit to Jesus as Lord James 4:7-10 4. Begin to practice it unconditional
